Understand that standing 6' up on a ladder is a more danger height being off the ground than 3' or even 8'. If you fall, the odds of landing on your head is a high risk and can be deadly. (We get continuous training at work, they show the data)
Do what you feel comfortable with. I prefer to be on the ladder rack for a short time and carefully walk on the roof while I do my chores. I would be more concerned about continuously going up and down on the ladder and most of all, leaning or stretching while up on the ladder. Do as you wish but understand that no answer is perfect.
