Rubber roof replacement

I have a 2003 Sunnybrook 31BWFS 5th wheel. I just discovered after a long trip that my rubber roof is ripped all the way across the trailer. Apparently it was flapping in the wind for quite awhile as a good portion of the rubber is missing. What are my options on replacing the roof and what should I expect money wise?

  • I punctured the rubber roof on my 3 day old 37ft Alpine, on low trees just down the street from my house.. $7100 to repair.
  • Just had a rip from a tree branch repaired in Jacksonville, FL at Gore RV. Talked about a new roof and they quoted $170 a running foot plus any structural repairs under the membrane once the old one is off. Does anyone have any experience with the new Rhino spray on stuff or any possible cost for it?
  • I have heard of people using landscape pond liner, its way way way cheaper.
  • Just had mine replaced in August. Bill was around $4000. Our 5er is 30 ft.
  • If it was the result of a tree branch or something similar then I would turn it into my ins.

The rubber roof adhesion failed because improper cleaning chemicals were used. Petroleum distillates or any petroleum by product will ruin a rubber roof. You have learned the hard way.

The previous estimate of $100 per running foot for removal and reinstall is very accurate.
  • Yeah...it happens. Some RV Manufacturers glue the roofs completly down...rollering glue over the roof before laying the membrane down and rollering it again. My Jayco has this type of roof.

Others I've seen at RV Factory tours are edge glued only (floating roofs)....those are the types you may see as a huge buldge on top of an RV going freeway speeds. One tear and it's "blowing in the wind"!

Shop for the best price on a total membrane replacement...since with the Sunnybrook reputation for quality you are likely to be able to keep the RV a long long time!

More and more buildings are using Membrane Roofing due to the long life and few problems associated with them. Rather that use a RV Dealer or an RV Repair Shop..contact some local home/business roofers who may have experience with installing these specialized roofing products to see it the cost may be less.
