Running frig while driving

We start ours a day or two before we put anything in it but don't run it while travelling. Just never found it necessary so we don't.

We have had one proven incident, several years ago, in our home town where severe damage and injury were directly linked to an RV'er fueling his gas powered van camper while his fridge was on. I'm not sure how close the gas filling port was located to the fridge exhaust.

Personally I have never given a second thought of fueling when my 5 er's fridge is on.

Logic seems to dictate that the chance of an incident may be possible but not very probable. I would assume that the issue would be magnified if you are fueling in an enclosed area, which, again is not probable.

Come on people, some of you people worry too much. Think about it, thousands upon thousands of all kinds of RV`s on the road and I have NEVER heard of one burning down due to filling gas tank and catching on fire due to the fridge being run on propane.
I would believe that motorhomes would be way more prone to this than
fifth wheels and travel trailers due to where motorhomes fuel cap is and
AGAIN I have NEVER heard of a motorhome catching fire due to running fridge on propane and fueling up.
If you are going to worry about this you had better be shutting that cell phone off that is in your pocket because it can also cause an explosion while fueling you vehicle. LOL

Tinner. You mention tripping the GFI on electric. You have a grounding issue. You don't have a good ground somewhere or you have electricity leaking to ground somewhere in the camper. If you had an overload on the circuit the breaker in the main panel in your house would trip. I suggest you turn off all the breakers in the power panel in the trailer and wait 3 to 5 minutes to see if the GFI trips. if it does trip you may have a problem with the Inverter. you then need to disconnect the 12volt leads coming out of the inverter and see if the GFI trips. If it doesn't trip your inverter is good. Connect up the 12 volt leads to the inverter. Then turn one one breaker at a time and wait 3 minutes between breakers to see if the GFI trips. If the GFI trips when you turn on a breaker you have a problem with that circuit.

We rarely travel with the refer on. It is plugged in at home and nice and cold. When we are ready to depart, we shut it off - no electric and no gas. Have traveled for 13 hours on long stretch and everything was just fine - even the ice was ice when we stopped. Your refer is one giant cooler - as long as the door is shut the heat does not get in and the cold does not escape. I know it is a rare thing, but it could happen - gas leak and go boom! For me better safe than sorry and besides, why waste that valuable propane.

I always start ours the day before we're leaving, then stock the cold fridge, leave it ON and head out.

Forget the coolers. Start the fridge and load it with cold food.
Yes leave it run on propane while in transit.

We start ours on gas the night before leaving, I usually stop by the storage lot after work. It is always cold the next morning, DW loads the refer while I hook up, we head down the road with the refer running on gas. The only restriction in our area that i am aware of is on Washington State Ferries, Gas need to be shut off and the LP access door is sealed with a seal.

I use reusable ice packs in the frig to keep things cold. refreeze them when we are camping and on the way home use them again. so far I haven't had a fire in the TT as some have had. I know many will come on and say they haven't had one either, and I say to them they need to add the word "yet".
