Not really, even if you forget to pin the arm the hitch will still not let go of the pin, until you pull the handle to deliberately release the pin. Once the arm snaps backward, the jaws are locked, backward being towards the rear of the truck. You can drive off without pinning the arm. DAMHIKIJK. I don't believe it's a recommended practice though. :)

The only time I've heard of someone dropping their trailer with a B&W is when he pinned the arm open, backed into the trailer, raised his legs, did not unpin the opened aram, and pulled forward. Just about the only way it can happen.
