Other than sales tax, what difference does it make if the dealer inflates your trade or brings down the msrp of the trailer. Assume a trailer with an msrp of $40,000 and your trade-in worth, for example $10,000. Difference is $30,000 and, at least in my state, sales tax is $1,200 at the state rate. Now, increase your trade-in to $18,000 and the difference is $22,000 and the sales tax is $880. Or, lower the msrp to $32,000 and leave your trade at $10,000 and the difference is still $22,000 and the sales tax is $880. Basically, when the inflate the trade-in value, they are really reducing the selling price of the new trailer. So, other than sales tax, what difference does it make? As far as calling you back, I would guess that's simply his way of trying to make you more anxious and more likely to pay a higher price, it that's indeed what was happening. I found that searching the net, like RV Direct, or RV Wholesalers, gets you in touch with people who are motivated to sell you a trailer and will indeed call you back.
The dealer that I eventually bought our FW from about three years ago didn't answer my internet inquiries for about three months and I was just about to buy from an internet dealer in Indiana when they finally called me. Their price was within $2,000 of the internet dealer's price and about 1,500 miles closer so it was a no brainer to buy closer to home. By the way, I actually sold my previous FW so I wasn't talking trade.
