^^Steve...you are not seriously comparing your old 7.3 diesel with half the HP, and no emissions to your 14 6.7 diesel loaded with emissions, and heavier truck??
I agree, using two identical trucks, that being a little closer to the cab, may make a slight difference, say 0.27 mpg. :) My figure CB wrong too?
No offence Steve, just made me smile.

actualy my old 7.3 had 130 more ftlb of torque and 45 hp more than my 14 f350 , but hey its the only thing I had to compare. one thing I did notice is the older truck took a lot more gas peddel to get up to highway speed but once there it towed like a champ, the newer one out towed the hopped up 7.3 all around especialy in the midrange, but the 7.3 would leave musel cars sitting at the lights wondering what just happened.
the point was that with both truck I also towed a 30 foot trailer and the fuel milage was pretty much the same when towing that and worse than towing a 40 foot 5th wheel. the only thing that changes in both cases is the length of space between the back window of the truck and the front of the unit being towed. the larger this area is the more it allows for a low pressure zone to be formed there inducing drag.
so both my trucks got with in 0.2mpg of each other towing the noral camping trailer, but when I went to the 5th wheel the older truck got 1 mpg better than the new truck with the 5th wheel and almost 2.3 mpg better than when it towed the trailer. the older truck the nose of the 5th wheel was about 1.5 feet off the back window, the new truck it is almost 3.5 to 4 feet off the back window. take it for what its worth but it makes sence. if you add air tabs (yes there ugly, but I wonder if you color matched them how they would look) it disrupts the aire coming over the back of the unit to prevent that low pressure zone from being formed which results in less drag. but to get the maximum benifit you would have to put them at the back of your 5th wheel and on the back of your cab, just to much ugly for most. the deflectors were showen not to be worth the cost on highway tractors, instead things likt the airtabs , flow below, and a few others are actualy worth your money but the biggest gas saving they found was from reducing the space between the back of the cab and the trailer and disrupting the low pressure zone at the back of the trailer.
