At the weight of that trailer, I would use the factory puck system. If it does not have them, they can be added. Brackets are already on the frame for them. Then the RVK3600 drops right in. I installed mine along with trailer plug in 4 hours by myself.

Prior to my 2016 truck,,, I towed my current 19,000 lb. Mobile Suite with regular bed rails installed in my 2012 Ram and Curt Q24 hitch. No issues. He would be wise to add the rails if he does not have the puck system. The custom fit kits are perfect for his truck.
