shopping, have questions

We are in the process of debating between the sabre 5ers (33rets or 34reqs) and TT (320rets). Virtually the same floor plan and not far off on length. Obviously the 5ers are slightly heavier than the tt but within specs for my truck (calculated using scaled tv weights and trailer gvwr not dry weights). Here is my dilemma... the 5er is more expensive and taller. Is it really that much nicer towing to be worth the expense (almost $10,000 difference)? How easy is it to adjust to the height. I worry towing my current tt and it is a lot shorter. Do most figure the difference in towing/backing out pretty easily? TT is a comfort zone for me towing but the 5ers sure are nice. Any input appreciated. Thank you.
  • After having several TT, the big thing for me, moving to a FW, was the easy hookup. No more trying to align the hitch and ball (before cameras). No WDH, and the bars to deal with.

With the FWs I've had, I can see the hitch, back into it, and done. Yes, the FW tows nicer, but does track to the inside when turning.

You get used to the height. Newer large TTs are getting taller too. I see people rubbing trees all the time, in the state parks. Maybe I'm too fussy, but I avoid the areas with low hanging trees.

If your tv will handle the FW payload, that is the way I'd go, after having several of each.

  • We never boondock, usually private CG and some state parks. I just always worry about low clearance power lines, trees and gas station roofs. The gas station thing is better since I got the diesel because I hit the truck lanes now. Bridges are marked, I worry about what's not marked. It is strange to be so concerned about that, I know, I'm just nervous until I do it.
  • 5th you gain basement and a more stable tow. TT you gain truck bed with cover if you want but a less stable tow and more length. For me the 5ver wins. As said if I boondocked in the forest more the TT might win. If I downsized to half ton and smaller rig it would be TT.

I don't see the dilemma, taller is better unless you boondock a lot.
Fifth Wheels tow shorter rather than longer like a TT. More storage both of the units you are looking at have full width closets, that and the basement can't be beat for storage.

Then there is towing, no sway, you need an extremely badly setup 5er to have a poor towing rig.

The 330QBTS is going to pull just a little longer than you pull now.
