- garysolExplorerSB with a Superglide auto slider. It slides everytime I back up so I never ever even have to think about it. The downside is that its damn heavy.
- HannibalExplorerSame Reese 15k non-slider I've have since '98. I installed a second set of rails 52" from the cab.

How many have short beds and do not use a slider?
At last count....
2,193 in the USA have short beds and don't use a slider.
However, 3,406 have short beds and *do* use a slider,
Approx 1,927 of the slider users have automatic sliders, remainder have manual sliders.
This info was part of the 2010(?) census - so it may be outdated now.

For longer trips, I added the air spoiler, it cuts down on the turning angle, but have not had a problem, you just have to watch it. Without the spoiler, the back of the cab will fit into the front cap on my fw and really no problem. - AZ_T_TExplorer6'6" bed and no slider. Have never been close to needing it.
- Dayle1Explorer IIShort bed, no slider. Actually, 25+ yrs, 4 different SB trucks, 5 different fivers. As already stated, between the 'D' and the steering wheel problems have been preventable. But then 25 yrs ago, sliders were not an option so other techniques were required.

At the 2 year mark of full timing, and about 30,000 travel miles, I would have said "have a short bed with slider and never needed it".
That all changed recently. I was backing into a really short tight spot in Florida. Site was a little soft and it allowed my fiver to lean slightly. That was just enough to close the normal 1.5" gap I would have normally had between the edge of my cab and the corner of the Montana when cranked all the way.
If a neighbor would not have yelled at me I would have dented my truck and fiver!
So it is not always just the angle you are at, it could be the tilt of the truck or fiver that could determine it you need your slider on a short bed.

If you are flat, no real problem. Backing up hill and all bets are off. Have Slider but did not use it. The noise of your window being blasted out by corner of trailer is quite loud, - vinrExplorer2013 Ram, 6ft bed, no slider, no problem.
- cwill925ExplorerI had a short bed and a slider hitch. I failed to slide it one time when I should have. Now I have reminder on my cab.
- lazydaysExplorerHave one and have never used it. It's so rusted that I doubt is would work anyway.
