- sch911ExplorerManufacturer engineered siping is good as it has been engineered into, validated, and passed durability testing. After market siping is 100% the wrong thing to do to any tire. Please avoid this as it only puts $$ in the tire dealer's pocket and provides you no benefit whatsoever.
- nomad297ExplorerSiping will help with heat dissipation which might be a good thing for an ST tire.
Bruce - RoyBExplorer IIFor those of 'US' that has no idea what is being talked about here GOOGLE says this about "What is SIPING of Tire"
"Discount Tire offers the revolutionary tire “Siping” procedure. Here's how siping works: Saf-Tee® siping cuts slits, called sipes, at 90° angles across the tread, providing thousands of gripping edges for better traction and stopping power. Wear-robbing heat and hydroplaning are also minimized."

Why is tire siping bad for trailer tire applications?

Dad gum 12V98, you do realize snorting coffee through your nose and all over the keyboard is bad for your nose and the computer??????
But I liked it anyway! - TrackrigExplorer IIIf it's part of the factory tread pattern, then I don't see any problem with it at all. What caused your concern about it?
Bill - sidneyExplorerOP here...
I'm not referring to after market siping
Rather the standard siping already designed into LT tires. - TrackrigExplorer III've sipped drive tires for traction, but have never sipped non-drive or trailer tires. The only negative I can think of is it will probably cause the tread to wear quicker, but I don't think you'll pull the trailer far enough to worry about the tread wear. Have you asked the company that would do the siping if they'd recommend it for trailer tires? I don't think it would help with traction enough to make it worth while, but again have never tried it on a trailer.
Bill - Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIOne....
If not factory/mfg. aftermarket siping probably will void any mfg. warranty
Two....
Siping a trailer tire can result in chunks due to stresses applied to threads when 'jacking' a trailer into a spot.
Ever watch the tires/suspension when backing into an off angle site
Third.....
Siping does improve traction but trailer tires are not 'drive tires' and traction improvement will be marginal - Cummins12V98Explorer III
