- gwinn1952ExplorerWe are going to paint it..... Thanks for all the suggestions.
- HEH458ExplorerI added aluminum channel along the sides, cut a thin piece of plywood to fit and painted it white. It slides in the channels and covers the skylight perfectly. Then I got a piece of R19 fiberglass and my wife put it into a pillow case and sewed it up. Stick that in between the plywood and skylight
- AridonExplorerHaving DRV take it out in our next unit.
- shark1955ExplorerI found what looks like bubble wrap covered in foil at Camping World that is used to cover the entry door window, which is the same size as my skylight. I stapled Velcro to the foil and used the bezel screws from the skylight to attach the other side of the Velcro. it does a great job of keeping the heat and sun light out and is easily removed in the fall when extra light is needed.
- mholmanExplorerI took the trim off and hot glued some rare-earth magnets on each corner and one in the center along the edges, put it back up (magnets are under trim so you can't see them). I cut a piece of black coraplast and hot glued the same size magnets to the corresponding locations as in the trim.
The magnets hold the coraplast in place. Easy on easy off.
Magnets are about the size of a nickel - VeebyesExplorer IIWith eyes closed the view is about the same for me, day or night. Love the trailer because it has lots of windows which let the light in. Would hate to live in a lightless dungeon.

Ok..PB is back up..this is a pic of the one on the toy hauler I replaced about a month ago. It was clear when I bought it and used the same Gloss White Krylon paint that I used on my 5er.
If you look to the right of the MaxxAir vent I put on the camper, you can see the dome of the skylight.
That is what it looks like from the outside. And this is what it looks like looking up on a hot August day.
I hope this gives you an idea. Sorry about not having a close up pic of it after I did it. Next time I cleaning it I'll try to take a better pic for folks.

Looks good, I may have to try that! I just bought a can of bright white plastic spray paint yesterday to do the yellowing plastic on the sides. Can't believe someone hasn't come up with a non-yellowing plastic by now... - nremtp143ExplorerOk..PB is back up..this is a pic of the one on the toy hauler I replaced about a month ago. Painted it with White Krylon Plastic paint. Lets in the light, but not the heat. This is painting the outside(top) of the skylight after cleaning it.
Do you have any pics from the topside? Seems to me the paint would black it out from the inside. Must be a fine coating. Mine is starting to yellow and I want to make it look better.
Photobucket is down right now so I can't get you a pick from the side. With it being as stark white as the Krylon gloss paint is, it matches everything else on top of the camper. I've had mine down for over a year now and it still looks new. My first camper('11 355QBQ Sandpiper) started to yellow within a year. Once this was painted, that didn't occur. And no, it wasn't a thin coat. Actually the light you see coming through is going through 2 heavy coats of paint. I just bought a 26ft toyhauler for deer hunting and the skylight was cracked, so I bought a new clear one and painted like I did my 5er before I ever put it on. Cuts out a LOT of heat. - redfire2002Explorer

Buy a cheap automotive front windshield sunblocker...th closed cell type with "bubble wrap" inside of silver mylar. You can get a square of it at Home Depot too.
Cut to size, use duct tape on the dges and add velcro to the lip of the skylight and back of the mylar. Stick it up when needed. We have them for our roof vents, shower skylight and front door window.
This is what we did and works great, really helps with the heat and can be easily taken off.
