Years ago all slides had the 2 inch step, flush floor slides are a later development. We have both the flush floor with the dinette and the sofa slide and the kitchen/entertainment slide with the lip. The face of the kitchen cabinets covers the lip but the entertainment section it is exposed. 7 years haven't stumped my toes cooking and DW hasn't complained when cleaning up after.
