slider fifth wheel hitch

some years back the dodge truck needed the slider (short bed).
kept the same hitch for the first ford. (long bed, diesel 7.3). lost due to some fool plowing into me.
used in the second ford (long bed, gasser = fail).
back to a short bed ford, diesel 6.0. using same hitch again

the hitch worked great. it does not care log or short bed.

I wouldn't trust the dealer, may have ulterior motives. Call the manufacturer directly. Some manufacturers will void the warranty, or threaten to void warranty if you make any modification, add a bike rack or hitch on the back, etc. If the Sidewinder is the same length as the original pin box, then leverage will be the same and since it is a bolt on, equivalent pin box, it should not void the warranty.

I bought a Reese slider before buying my fifth wheel because I have the 6.5' bed on my 2500HD. I recently bought a 2014 Rockwood with the Reese Revolution pin box. I have made a U-turn without sliding the hitch with no problem at all. I have considered selling my slider to get a standard hitch to make it easier getting it out of the bed because I don't see a reason to have the slider.

I use the Sidewinder PIN (same as Revolution). Very happy with it.

I don't think you would go wrong with a Pullrite I relly like mine, it is all automatic.

Of course you can have a slider hitch in your truck bed even if it never gets used.

You are right. Years ago the Revolution was an option on the Rockwood. IT is now a standard item, therefore a slider hitch is absolutely not needed. In this case, the dealer appears knowledgable about the product.

IF a manual slider hitch is used with the Revolution, then the increased leverage could damage the slider mechanism, the hitch mounting bolts or the Revolution wedge. I'm not sure what would happen with an auto slider, maybe double jointed, maybe more expensive damage.

The only time it would be safe to use a slider hitch with the Revolution is if the lockout bolts were installed to prevent the Revolution from pivoting.

I have the (fantastic) Revolution Pin Box, therefore no slider needed...but if I DID have a slider, with the Revolution, I could see where there might be an issue when backing up and turning...the Revolution would swivel as designed, and the slider would at the same time move backwards---possibly a "double joint" situation...
