Smashed bugs are bugging me!

I found that doing the following works great for me :

I start with a good coat of wax on the cap

Then I hose down the cap at each stop for the night...and use a light brush..

We get love bugs here in the southeast. They are very acidic and will eat away the paint on your car or trailer if left too long. They become a wad of splattered glue which requires soaking and sometimes real arm power. If only a day or old, they can be removed real easy with a new or used dryer sheet. Use the dryer sheet like a scrub pad with lots of water and it will not damage your front cap.

Purple Power full strength. Spray it on and let it set for about a minute and then use your brush on a handle.

Test with a small spot, but WD40 is great for removing grease (and bug juice is grease). Spray a small spot, let it sit for a few seconds, wipe off. See what happens. I used WD40 for this and lots of other things, like removing road tar spots.

Make a 50/50 solution of peroxide and water. Spray on the bugs and let it sit for about 10-15 mins. You'll see the bugs foaming - like blood foams when you put peroxide on a cut - because it reacts with protein. This will soften them and most should come off. If real heavy, you might have to do it again.

Another method is to wet a towel in hot water and lay it on the surface. Leave it for a minute or two and then they should wipe right off.

I have a motorcycle and am OC with keeping it glistening. These methods work better than any expensive spray cans off the shelf.

First get a good coat of wax on it. And 'keep' waxing it.

I've tried everything and this is the ONLY thing that really works on stubborn dried on bug juice! And once you experience Love Bugs in Florida you 'know' what stubborn smashed bugs are all about and how to get them off. :B

And the Dobie sponge will not scratch the finish.

I have had fair results with a micro fiber rag, bug sponge, or a used dryer sheet and any car wash soap. I get good results with a Love Bug Eraser and car soap. It comes in a set with a handle and extra pads from Amazon. The important thing is an application of a good wax when the cap is clean. And try to clean the bugs off as soon as possible if allowed by the campground.
I don't use anything strong like Simple Green or Purple Power as they remove the wax I spent time putting on.

I just tried Lucas quick wax from walmart last cleaning. Last trip full of bugs. We had a rainstorm 2 nights ago and the rain washed them all off.

Keep it waxed and clean with a wet dryer sheet.

This will do the trick for existing Bug remains. Wax as a preventive for future, even then dryer sheets are the thing you need.
