sok II sideout kover w/ manual lock fabric replacement

Need a little assistance. I need to replace the slide out awning. I have the new fabric, however I can't figure out how to pin the roller. Looking at all the tech documents, it looks like the pin enters on the front end of the roller but not on the round portion of the roller (does that make sense?). I have turned the roller trying to find where the allen wrench or pin will go through the rod. Tried the Carefree website but they say see an authorized dealer. Has anyone tried this? I just need to prevent damage or loosening the spring on the roller bar.

  • You need to take the front bracket loose from the slide, have someone hold the tube so it does't roll. Be very carefull when you take the bracket loose as the spring tension will want to turn it, then pull the spring out of the tube using the bracket. It will only come out a couple of inches, so no worries of pulling it out completly. Once the end of the spring is out of the tube an inch or two you'll be able to find the hole to pin it. Hope this helps. By the way there is only a spring on the right side, the other end is just an idler.
  • So if I move the front bracket forward and the rear bracket back, will I lose the tension on the spring? I tried the front bracket forward without taking the nuts off and still can't see a hole to place the pin through.
  • I had to push the front mount forward, while pushing the outter tube rearward, to find the hole in the inner tube.
