Why? Why would a 3500 with a diesel with a 3.73 rear tow it up the mountain faster than a 2500 with the same diesel, and a 3.73 rear.
Now I'll go for the 3500 may handle the trailer better. But tow it up the hill with more power. Nope. Would be the same.
You can't get a 3.73 axle in a new Ram 2500. All SRW Rams (2500 and 3500) are restricted to a 3.42 axle ratio. The 3500 DRWs can get a 3.42, 3.73 or 4.10 axle ratio. The 3500s can also get an optional Aisin transmission and higher output Cummins 6.7L (385/900) than is available on the 2500. With the lower (higher numerical) axle ratios, this option also includes a larger 11.8" AAM rear axle. The 2016 3500 (actually, all 2013 and up 3500s) also has a different (stronger) frame and different suspension than the 2500.
Is that sufficient background to say that the 3500 is a different truck than the 2500?
