Thanks Mamasmax. Was looking for people who have tried it successfully or not. All the DRW/1 ton guys agree I bought to small a truck. Not helpful. I just want to hear success or failure stories. Truck is bought, its a done deal. Need to decide how much trailer I can handle.
You've gone from "About to purchase" to "the truck is bought"!
Now you have it, go look at the yellow/black "Tire and loading Information" label near the driver's door.
Read the "Maximum occupant and cargo must not exceed" number.
THAT is your starting point and is usually referred to as "Payload"
Add up ALL the weight you will put in the truck, occupants, fuel, hitch and everything else.
Subtract that number from that Payload number.
What is left is what the max
LOADED pin weight of the trailer should be if you want to stay within spec and preserve your warranty.
FWIW, it's probably less than the 2300# that the 40' fiver is going to add.
You need to look at smaller trailers I'm afraid.
Remember, I'm the one within 200# of GVWR with a 27 footer and 2700# of payload available.
