I have a dummy's question for you. How does one get their weights when the weigh station is closed? Is there a display somewhere that you can see? The only time I have had my rig weighed was at a CAT scale at a truck stop. Cost $10. - rhagfoExplorer IIINot required for RV is Oregon, but the displays are always on, so you can stop when they are closed and get your weights.
- SoCalDesertRid1Explorer IIIn CA and AZ, passenger cars, rv's of any kind, vans and pickups, do not stop at scales. Only commercial trucks stop at scales. In CA, that means only commercial trucks that are displaying a CA CRV registered weight sticker on the side of the truck must stop. All others do not stop.
- Jim-LindaExplorer IIWith respect and to clarify: For Us RV's This is from Florida Statues: "Florida Statute makes it unlawful for the driver of any vehicle, other than those exempted by the statute, to pass any official agricultural inspection station without first stopping and submitting the vehicle for inspection.
Ag inspection is not the same as weight inspection. No stopping unless the signs specifically apply to you.

Why do you continue to post BAD info..:?.. DOT scales are NOT restricted to commercial vehicles, they can be used to weigh or inspect ANY vehicle the state wants. I have seen signs in more than one state that said, ALL vehicles over xxxx# MUST stop. There is at least one western state that "by law" requires every motorhome towing a toad, to stop for inspection. Are these requirements enforced, sometimes they are and if you are the one that made the decision to bypass, after reading the sign, then I hope you have deep pockets.
Private vehicles are never required to stop at DOT scales.
READ the sign as you approach the scales or inspection area and follow the instructions. - Dog_FolksExplorer

They are great for a quick weight........pull thru them when closed and get your set up weights free.
But NO..you do not have to go thru weigh scales unless commercial.
Don't confuse weigh scales with inspection sites....those you do have to go thru, just follow ALL the traffic

Those vehicles not required to stop include: private passenger automobiles with no trailer in tow, travel trailers, camping vehicles, van conversions, and motor homes, or pickup trucks not carrying agricultural, horticultural, or livestock products and which have visible access to the entire cargo area, or city, county, state, or federal vehicles."
You don't have to stop UNLESS you are directed to either by signage or a Law Enforcement Officer. In that case you better stop because they will chase you down. - KreaseExplorerUnless you have #s on the side of your truck, don't even bother stopping. You're wasting your time and theirs.

Legally in Maryland, if you're over 5T GVW, you're required to stop. That means, with no trailer in tow- in my dually with a 12,300 GVWR I'm supposed to stop. I've swapped emails with the highway department and confirmed.
Practically, I'm sure they'd look at me like a red-headed elephant if I actually did stop. - Crazy_RayExplorerSIMPLE answer YES
