Store spare in compartment?

We moved ours to the bed of the truck from the back bumper as we carry a couple of light weight bikes. The area behind the hitch to the tailgate was not being used so we thought why not. Use a bicycle cable lock to secure it to the hitch. That tire saved us from damaging the ruck bed sides one time we pulled out and the hitch was not closed. So its location served a dual purpose. Have thought about mounting it under the frame behind the front legs, but since we have the JT's installed that could create another problem, so will leave the tire in the bed.

If my spare weren't already under the rear of my rig, I'd find or build something that would allow it to be stowed there. Even get a couple lbs counterweight for the pin. ;-)

We keep ours in one of the side compartments.

I moved mine from the bumper to under the bed.

Thought about the front compartment, but we cannot open the front compartment door enough to pull out the tire, without unhitching from the TV. I did not like the idea of having to unhitch before changing a flat.

No room to do this for us unfortunately.

Hard covers for tires seem to be car specific or custom made and way too high in cost.

Here's a possible fix for underneath storage:
Spare tire winch

I use our front storage for sewer items, tools, chocks etc. Never thought about the tire on the rear as an issue. I'd rather have the storage!

The spare on my 03 Cardinal was carried under the front behind the landing gear.

Moved to the front storage compartment for the following reasons.
#1 Out of sight out of mind.
#2 Kept clean and easier to get if needed.
#3 No chance of falling and destroying trailer undercarriage.

Bracket it sits on is made of 1/2" X 1/2" angle iron.

You can still store on top and underneath.
