Sub-freezing Traveling

If you are traveling in sub-freezing weather:

1). Will the furnace work while on the road?
2). Do you run the furnace while going down the road?

Thanks in advance
  • You have to make sure the vents in the floor aren't covered by the slideouts. Mine are but I never really needed to turn the furnace on. Last year we went to Florida in the winter and stopped in Savannah, GA for the night. We turned the heat on then. On the way home, we stopped for the night near Atlanta and blew out the lines in the morning before we left.
  • We travel a bit in cold (sometimes below zero) temperatures, with water in the unit, so yes....the heater is on. And as previously stated, be sure to have at least some of your vents open to flow!
  • Watch out for ice while traveling "sub freezing"

Ice will gather on the sewer, axle, suspension, TV antenna, roof vent, etc. It really adds up to extra weight fairly quickly. When pieces break free at highway speed there will likely be damage.
  • Furnace needs propane and 12V DC to function

Furnace needs minimum recommended airflow to & from furnace or it will overheat tripping the High Temp Limit Switch .....then furnace will cool down/refire/overheat ---trip until temp reaches t-stat set point.

So IF furnace 'return' and/OR Too Many discharge registers are blocked it 'limit cycle' Burner On/Off

SO answer is 'Depends' on your trailer layout.

Try it BEFORE you need to have it and see how it functions.
  • Thanks guys. You have been a great help.

My vents will not be covered when the slides are in. In the living room, theer is no way it could be covered.
In the Bedroom, the sheets/blankets could possibly slip and cover a vent. I will make sure that they cant.

    Thanks again.
  • bring your indoor/outdoor cordless thermometer from home to monitor the temp in your trailer works great. We run our heater some years until we get south of K.C Mo(8 hours+).Make sure you have a charging wire to your unit. dont ask me how I know.
