Sudden stink!

We came back from a couple weeks in NV and NM, parked the rig in the back yard and all was good!

A few days later I notice an odor in the trailer - it took two days to narrow it down to the bathroom and the toilet...turn on the exhaust fan in the bathroom and phewie! - the stink gets worse. I figured the toilet gasket moved or came loose or something, so I bought a new one and haven't installed it yet and yesterday when I was checking my batteries I discovered that the basement smells of sewer as well! That got me worried and I haven't investigated further but I have to get it fixed...anyone have any idea why the thing was fine until we got home and didn't start the odor until several days later?

We dumped a full tank just before parking it...

Weird!

  • Could you have a dead mouse trapped somewhere. They smell awful and their dead odor permeates into everything!
  • Sure its not your batteries that are smelling? they can make a strong stink if they have problems.
  • I would put some water in the toilet first to see if it drains down. If it holds water it's ok. Next check air admittance valves but if it stinks in the basement it may be that a vent has some loose.
  • Basement smells also..check for cracked line/fitting on tank vent line and on toilet dump line to tank.
