Suggestion On Buying A New Trailer.

I read a number of posts with members asking what others think about this model or that manufacture over others. We tend to fall in love with the floor plan, and yes that’s important, but after years of RVing I find what is just important is how structural a fiver is built. Does it have a durable frame, how much weight can the tires and axles carry, and does it have reliable brakes? If your looking at a new trailer to you, fall in love with your floorplan, but research how it’s made and will meet the way YOU plan to RV.

  • After having two new trailers in a row which were not worth the %$^#* they were built with my newest trailer has very good bones. Excellent chassis, shocks and tires, aluminum framed walls and well built. Yes, it is 2000 pounds heavier and only 2 feet longer but on this new one when I clamp down my Andersen hitch it doesn't squeeze the frame closed. Both trailers had 2X2 framing for bed and couch - old trailer also had knot holes in the wood that broke as soon as you sat on it. You have to do your research to buy a trailer these days as there is a lot of junk out there.
  • We have bought two brand new RVs in our years of RVing. Both were consider mid-level units. Both held up to at least once per month use with several 1 to 5 weeks trips each year. The first one was a TT we sold after 16 years and we still have our 20 year old 5th wheel.

Structural problems weren't a problem with either one. A couple of minor issues (which occured after the units were over 10 years old) but no trip stoppers.

I do regular preventative maintenance which I feel goes a long way in stopping problems.
