Superglide capture plate metal wear??

Noticed this on my Pullrite Superglide capture plate. The area on the capture plate just behind the pin appears to be wearing against something. It's a deep gouge. I can find no wear marks on the hitch itself although I may not know just where to be looking. This is a brand new set up. Have only made two trips so far. Any ideas as to the problem?
