I wonder if that is a result of the type of malfunction my hitch suffered?
Yours in not a isolated case and your not the first RV.net member to report the same problem. Sometime in the mid '00 Trailer Life (I believe) had a tech article on the same issue that some Superglide owners had reported. Pullrite responded with the proper instruction using the proper lube for the owners year model of hitch.
Just a point on the need of a sliding hitch. You didn't say which truck you have but many GM short bed owners report they don't need a sliding hitch or if they have one its never used for a couple of reasons.
Certain year model short bed GM trucks have a longer dimension from the back of the cab to the trucks rear axle, than a Ford or Dodge. If the hitch was placed zero over the rear axles this is another plus. Also if the trailer has tapered/notched or rounded front corners then the short bed GM has even more clearance.
I would contact Reese tech line for answers to your questions about your truck/trailer combo with the Sidewinder. Or drop by a Reese dealer and see what they have to say.
