Yep, I've seen your pictures of your bearings. But because you've had issues doesn't mean everyone, or even most people will have issues. Modern engines, even though put together meticulously, still fail. Just not very many, all things considered. Very much like trailer wheel bearings.
When I spoke of wheel bearings, I was referring to tapered roller bearings which many vehicles still use. The design is exactly the same. And we were talking about wheel bearings, not drum brakes and associated hardware.
And the last time I had to replace a bad front wheel brake rotor hub on my truck, it had tapered roller bearings, and separate seals. And a castle nut that had to be tightened to spec, and then set finger tight. Exactly like any trailer wheel bearing I've seen. Would you pull that bearing every year and repack it? I certainly wouldn't. Just because our fathers, and grandfather had to do it doesn't mean it's still necessary. Just one of those old husbands' tales that refuse to die.
Of course this is all JMO, and if not shared by anyone, that's life.
