- b_pilotExplorerWe have a plug in Progressive 50amp. It has saved us once in the two years we have had it. Had bad voltage at the pedestal and unit would not let power into the camper. Unit has a lifetime warranty.
- JframpeyExplorerI have one. A progressive dynamics hard wired 50 amp model. Bought and wired myself in new trailer last winter. It's already alerted me to low voltage twice and just this week - high voltage! 132 volts. Who would've thunk it!
In the middle of the night I woke to the beep beep of the microwave when the power came back on. Ran to the kitchen and saw the error message - PE3 High voltage. Watched the display for a couple of minutes - it was at 131 volts, and then 132 and clunk off she went. Turned the main breaker off and went back to bed. In the morning I reported it to the campground management... Local power utility was there in a few hours.
They replaced a section of overhead cable - said the neutral was showing a lot of resistance. Once the cable was on the ground you could see sections that had been chewed down to 1 or 2 strands! They said squirrels sharpen their teeth on the bare conductors!
Who knew! All is well now. - pianotunaNomad IIIHi Ken,
Near by lightening strike is going to kill anything in an RV. The only adequate protection is unplugging. - TXicemanExplorer IIA post inline surge guard will not protect the RV if you have a short in the power cord between the post and the RV.
A friend had a near by lightening strike and his power cord faulted between the coach and the post. In any case the short caused a 240volt spike on the trailer. New washer-drier, all new AV system, etc. If the surge protector had been coach mounted, it would have saved the damage?

I use a 50A Progressive Dynamics electrical management system with surge protector. I purchased the portable system so I can use it or check the electrical settings for my friends when they are hooking up.
Huh?

I believe that he goes to their site and checks out their electric supply before they plug in. Nice

I don't believe Progressive Dynamics produces portable EMS units.
Bruce
Good catch you guys. You are absolutely correct. I own a Progressive INDUSTRIES portable EMS unit. And yes, I check out my friend's hookups before they connect so they don't wind up with damage to their system from incorrectly wired pedestals - Racine96ExplorerI have a Progressive one. Works fine.
- pianotunaNomad IIIHi,
Yes, but I'm unhappy below 108 volts--and the current crop don't shut down until about 104 or 105 istr. Therefore they are useless to me. - rhingstExplorerYes they do, Bruce. I have had one for over 6 years and it checks for lots of things. Check their website as they do have 30 amp and 50 amp portable ones.
- GoPackGoExplorerMine also looks for low voltage as well.
