Switching to toy hauler.

How much do you want to spend? What is your tow vehicle? I ordered a tow behind toy hauler because they weigh less, cost less and have more garage space (in an open design) I have a 1 ton Ram 3500 so I could pull more weight but didn't want to.

Looking to spend no more that 30K. I know it's hard to find 5th wheel toyhaulers for that but I'm not buying a 10 year old RV. I still have my 2004 Dodge dually with the Cummins and expect to own that truck for at least 10 more years if not more.

Also it depends on where you're going to be staying. Are you going to be boondocking a lot or staying at RV parks and/or campgrounds? Just the two of you? How big are the bikes, street or dirt? How do you feel about riding up a steepish ramp? Are you leaning toward an open design or a separate garage?

Mostly boondocking. Just two of us. 2 full sized cruisers. Ramp will be an issue because both bikes have low clearance so we will have to add to the ramp. Definitely separate garage.

Only problem I see with a Toy Hauler is one's choice of campsites. Make sure your selection of campsite enables you to open the back door-ramp. I've seen many, many Toy Haulers camped in Indiana State Parks that could not open their door-ramp because trees were in the way, or the back of their camper was too close a down hill slope or ravine. Sometimes camps sites back right up to each other. Lowering the ramp would drop on the adjacent campsite. Anyway, just something to think about. I've met some unhappy campers. They had to unload their toys before backing in the campsite. That was the only way they could get them out.

^^^FWIW I've had to unload the bikes before parking quite a few times. It's not a big deal. If you have a long toyhauler, it is pretty common as a matter of fact.

I was going to say the same thing. Not a huge deal.

So whats the difference between a tow behind and a 5th wheel other than the obvious extra room?

Fifth Wheels are heavier (not an issue for you), they tow much more stable than bumper pulls, and are often a lot longer if you want the seperate garage. Also 5th wheels typically have more outside storage.

If you want a separate garage, fifth wheel is your best option. And not really possible to find one for 30k unless you go a used 10 year old one. Even then maybe not. New 21 foot bumper pulls without a separate garage you can't find for 30k anymore.
