After rolling my Maverick ten times down a big dune with helmets I can't imagine anyone, especially children, ever consider riding without. I guess it's like people in states like Arizona, Utah and Nevada figure their head isn't worth much so why bother. Sorry for the rant but I've seen peoples heads in accidents without and it ain't pretty.
