Tail gate on or off?

My trailer has a short pin box, I went with a V gate for convenience. It was a pita to back until the pin touched the hitch, get out, close the gate, get in and finsh hooking up. Then go through pulling ahead a bit and opening the gate to unhook. I don't worry about somebody stealing a couple of old lawn chairs when unhooked so no tonneau.

Another with a “V” style tailgate, less turbulence, no need to open or close.

Mine stayed on in the olden days.

Another one here that keeps it on.. I personally like the stuff in my bed to stay in the bed while driving.

All of the above....no reason to take it off.

Ours stays on. Two reasons 1) we have a backup camera in it. We use it to line up with the hitch. When it gets close enough, I drop the tailgate and DH latches on. 2) secures whatever cargo we have in the back - extra water, steps, etc.

No real good reason to remove tailgate.......UNLESS you are forgetful cause you have to OPEN it to hitch/unhitch and CLOSE it after hitching/unhitching

When we went FT I swapped it out to a Louvered 'U' notched tailgate so I didn't have to do either....made for hitching/unhitching easier for one person

Never took mine off in 11 years towing a fiver. But then again I also had a hard tonneau so I could lock the trucks bed when unhitched.
