Tampa RV Show

We went yesterday and saw a lot of RV's, DW and I are looking at two 5th wheels. The first is a Coachmen Brookstone 334RL, which features a King size bed that moves up so you can read or watch TV and a dishwasher. The other was a Cedar Creek 34RL. If I add some of the options to the Coachmen, i.e. fiber glass rear cap, 6 way auto leveling, it seems to have all the features of the Cedar Creek. Both offer 7K lbs. dexter axels and "G" rated 16" tires.

Your thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated!
  • I personally would never purchase any thing built by coachman no matter how beautiful they look. I have known so many who purchased their products and had leaks and more leaks. One family had the side wall come loose from the frame. The wife was riding in the passenger seat and looked down and could see the road going by under her feet. This was in the first month of owning the brand new rig.....Others we have known have had vent leaks and window leaks on their units that had to be repeatedly repaired. So from the experiences of our former club members I would say go with the Cedar Creek.....
  • I think coachman is owned by Forest River now, which maybe better quality control.:@
  • Ok, maybe I am confused, I thought both Coachmen and Cedar Creek were owned by Forest River? Am I wrong?
  • Oh by the way, if you did not pick up on my forum name, I have owned Coachmen products in the past, some better than others. What was explained to me Coachmen was what Chevy is to cars, they make a lot of products, and are only middle of the road in quality, but have a good price point for what they offer! Neither 5th wheel I looked at had dove tail draws, nor did they have draw closerers. The fit and finish looked similar, fiber board etc. Could you tell me why I should go with the Cedar Creek? That is what I liked, but it is hard to convince DW when she sees features she likes in one while as I said the rest of the "stuff" looks so similar!
  • Did you mean a 334R"E"? I don't see a 334RL in searches. However, I am not a fan of craning my neck to watch tv, so I am not a fan of RE models.

We have had our Brookstone 2 summers and about 6k miles. No leaks yet.

We had other production issues though, so a thorough going through is a must.

You can see issues about Cedar Creeks here: http://www.forestriverforums.com/forums/f23/

On the same forum you can find issues with Coachmens:

    (though very little about Brookstone's).

If you search for forums on virtually any brand, you will run screaming into the night.
