While I do own a diesel, I don't think the ROI is there in a lot of cases. I guess if you were doing a huge amount of miles, it might make sense. For me, I just liked the power and cool factor of the diesel, I didn't kid myself thinking I was going to save so much in fuel prices. With the premium on diesel engines, increased maintenance costs and (at least in AZ) premium on fuel prices, it just doesn't pay for itself in most cases.
