Thoughts on 2004 Nu-Wa Hitchiker II LS

Hello all! My husband and I are looking to upgrade to a fifth wheel from a travel trailer and currently have our eye on a used 2004 Hitchhiker II LS Fifth Wheel Series M-34.5 RLTG that we found locally.

I was hoping some of you could chime in on this brand, or better yet, this model type or similar, with any experiences, suggestions, etc. If what I'm reading is correct, Nu-Wa is a very good brand for fivers.

We currently have a Jayco Eagle travel trailer but are wanting to upgrade for more lengthy trips (we travel with three dogs).

Thanks for any info!

Don't have a LS but a 2004 33LK Champagne. Bought it new. No plans on selling it.

Agree. I am a Member of the NuWa Hitchhiker Owners Forum. I joined in May to learn about HH's before buying in the future. A wealth of knowledge on the forum. Easy to Join. Pop in and ask away. Best of luck in your search.

If the frame is black you may want to check it out real well. If it is white it is made by Young's and is top quality.

In 04 I think they were still using Young frame for the HHII.

When we were looking to get a larger 5er we were looking at HH Champagne's, CarriLite's and Mobile Suites.

There were no Champagne's and ugly CarriLites available so we ended up with the MS and are happy but the Champagnes are very nice and as you said "no plans on selling it" is why there are very few for sale.

My folks have had a 96 Premier since new and it has been very trouble free.

You can't go wrong with a NuWa HH!
  • Thanks for all the replies thus far! We have an F350 Diesel so towing won't be an issue. I appreciate all the tips and info!
  • The HHII was there entry model and used a Lipert frame. They are still a good trailer. Even though the mfg plt is shut down they still sell and service RV's. From other post's it may still have a Young's frame in 2004.
  • If the frame is black you may want to check it out real well. If it is white it is made by Young's and is top quality.

While I am not familiar with the model you are looking at, my wife and I have a 2007 HH II LS 26.5RLBG which we bought used early this year. It is our first 5er, having upgraded from a Palomino tent trailer that we bought new 30 years ago. Thus far we have towed it on four trips and accumulated a total of about 7700 miles. Our TV is a 2008 Silverado Duramax 2500HD.

We really enjoy the trailer and so far it has had no major difficulties whatsoever. The quality of materials that went into the build seems first-rate, as does the fit and finish. We did add a few customizing touches to suit our particular needs, but I am sure most everyone does the same. During our last trip (over 6000 miles and 25 days) we traveled some pretty bumpy roads. The trailer weathered the trip very well. Nothing loosened up or fell apart.

If you know someone who has experience with 5th.-wheel trailers, you might see if yo can enlist their help in making your selection and also doing a walk-through inspection of the trailer.

Good luck to you and have many happy travels.
  • We had a 2004 32.5 UKTG was a very good unit. Never had any trouble with it. Had to replace bushings in the wet bolt suspension once and the brakes. Have since upgraded to a 21012 345 Discover America. You probably can't go wrong with a NUWA product. Will need a 3/4 ton truck to handle this unit.
  • My neighbor bought a similar unit, used, about 3 years ago. I believe his is an 04 LS 30.5 model RL with two slides.

Yes, I think these are very well made. He has had a few minor problems, the most serious being a shear bolt breaking on the LR slide.

He never pulls it very far, usually just to the local campground 4 miles away.
His truck, an older gasser 2500 5.7, does not pull it very well. These FWs are quite tall, and have a square front that catches a lot of wind.

It appears that you have a more capable truck, that should pull it just fine.

    Good luck,

    Jerry
