Thought's on buying Good Sam extended warranty

Again, thanks to all for the info. I've decided to bank the money and pay out of my own pocket for repairs.

I wonder if when you have a blowout and destroy half the side of the rig if Michelins ribs will pay for that damage like Goodyear does. Cost $1,600 for five new Mich. Ribs, they should,

Aftermarket warranties by a third party usually don't pay in the long run. And don't forget to call and get approval before having any work done. They love denying payment due to failure to obtain prior approval.

. The Convection Microwave, best price at Lowes for this GE model is $1100. Install required lifting (it's too heavy for one person) and re-drilling the mounting holes in the over range cabinet bottom. Cutting through the bottom corroplast in the correct place, removing and replacing the two valves (which are cable operated) took the RV tech two hours, then properly replacing the insulation and repairing the corroplast. Well worth the $100 it cost me. With no insurance, another $1400. Still, as I said earlier it's a coin toss, but if you're full time like we are, this stuff is used constantly and extended coverage may pay off.

Mathematics and statistics show that SELF insurance is the way to go. Good Sam is in business to make a profit and the salesman is in business to make a commission. Actuaries are mathematicians that calculate how to make a profit for the insurance company.
Saying that road side assistance may be worth it because of the convenience of a phone number to call when stranded in an unfamiliar or remote area.

If I were going to buy one G.S. would be the one to buy. Most of the others have gone bankrupt of just gone. In 12 years of owing my present fiver I have not spent any money on what would be called a warrenty repair. Save your money

Another factor that I ran into years ago when I let CW quote a Good Sam Extended Warranty is that the fine print says that all covered components must be serviced according to the respective manufacturers' schedules, and receipts must be available to prove that service has been performed.

Do you REALLY take your RV to an authorized dealer to get your furnace serviced every year (or whatever), the water heater serviced, etc., etc.? I don't - I take care of routine maintenance myself, and that's not acceptable per the language of the extended warranty.

As I said, that was the case when CW gave me the quotation years ago. Perhaps that has changed, but I'd certainly make sure.

I agree with everyone else here, they just aren't worth the money. You have to remember they make money off selling them.
There's no profit in paying out.

We bought a five year extended warranty (not God sam) at time of purchase for almost $1600. I was kicking myself until last month when our microwave/convection oven stopped working. I contacted the company about that plus two sticking grey water valves. They approved the $1500 total, so I got the new convection oven and the valves replaced by a mobile RV service for a cost of $100 for my deductible. I still have about a year and a half on the policy. In our case, and since we are full time, if nothing else breaks we're close to even. Still, things can still go bad but in the end, it's a roll of the dice.

The 5th I bought in 2006 had a two year mfgr warranty.
Never used it.
No need to - nothing broke, nothing to fix. (Yet).

Of course....it's going to be 10 years old pretty soon.

Maybe I should have one of the "lifetime warranty" (gimmicks) being offered now?..:@
