Tire brand issue

I bought Bridgestone R250 16"ers last week @ Costco @ $195 each--far less than the Michelins. They're to replace the Chinese Will Pops on my brand new Grand Design trailer.

I couldn't get over how thick the side wall rubber is--1"+. At 57 lbs. each, they're really, really heavy duty tires in comparison with the Toyo Open Country A/T's on my tow vehicle. And bead to bead is 2 layers of steel belts.

I've heard nothing but great things about the Bridgestones, as well as the much more expensive Michelins.

Actually the Bridgestone Duravis R250 is just as good for less money than the XPS Rib. I have used both, so I speak with actual experience. Chris

Durhamcutter, Take a look at the Michelin XPS. I think you will do good for the money.

I bought a set of Coopers today and they are LT's , thanks for all of the input.

Expensive, yes! but you know they will last the 6 years you want them to with our any problems.

If you do have a problem they will take care of you. No one else will except for your Insurance Co.

At the end of 6 years sell them on CL for $400 for someone's utility trailer.

Any ST tire put on a 5th wheel that size is a recipe for disaster, or at least a flat not too far in the future. I'd be looking at LT tires that are within the load carrying range of your axles and/or total weight.

Your in Goodyear G614 or Sailuns S637 size tires which has a 3750 lb load capacity at 110 psi.

I think your math is off. A 13,000 5'er with a 2600lb pin will leave 10400lbs on the axles. Or 2600 per wheel.

If I don't know the name of the tire I get rid of it. I would not consider a Prometer. Also do not put on another ST. Just asking for trouble. Maxxis is a a decent priced tire, that has held up well. Course Michelin is probably the best.

What size tire is needed ?? Dunno but....... A 13000 lb 5th wheel trailer can have 2600 lbs of pin weight which may leave 11400 lbs on the trailers axles or 2600 lbs per tire.
Your in Goodyear Michelin XPS or Bridgestone R-250 at 3042 lbs load capacity.
