tire pressure monitor

Pulling into the RV storage lot after a long weekend the alarm went off. Looked and it indicated a tire (2 year old Marathon) was losing pressure. As we have to pull around an RV service building to get to the lot I suspect I ran over a loose screw. The tire lost about 15lbs in the few minutes it took to unhook but that was not enough to show visible signs and the tire was not hissing. Had it not been for the monitor we would have stored the trailer and gone home unaware. We would come to pick it up next time to find a flat. As it is we arranged to have it fixed (replaced most likely) by the repair shop there. If you do not use one I recommend you at least investigate them and consider it.

Greg.
  • I have had the TST flow through for a few years now. We are on the last leg of a 7000 mile plus trip and I have had two of the units fail. I changed the battery in one and it still doesn't work and I can't get the screws loosened on the other. I'll try that one again when we get home in a couple of days. I had one fail a couple of years ago, changed the battery and still no go, so I got ahold of TST and they exchanged the unit no problem. I must say that on that same trip the system did tell me that one of the tires on the truck was loosing air due to a screw in the sidewall, therefore requiring a new tire. I will call TST when we get home about the present problems.
  • X2 for the Tire Minder. Works like a charm and gives me some peace of mind.

Well my TST unit never even noticed a blowout. It's one of the older ones maybe the new model works better. I have to say I did catch a slow leak on a tire with the TST.

    What model do you have?

Tire Minder but I would think all are decent units. It has gone off a couple times before when I made a sharp turn. Most likely that was because I was too fast during the turn (yes I keep tires at correct PSI). It stopped when I straightened. I got the hint and now slow down to a crawl on sharp turns. No alarms since then until this.
  • Yep. You may go a lifetime and never actually need it. But when it saves you the hassle of, or damage due to, a flat tire it is worth every penny.
