Tire pressure

Just curious of what tire pressures you all run when going to the dunes, specifically Pismo. I normally run roughly 20psi on the truck and roughly the same for the toy hauler.
  • I don't air down. Keep my speed up and I go the same route every time. But I go to Gordons
  • 50 PSI on my 19.5" wheels and down 1/3 of the sidewall deflection on my trailer tires.
  • I usually wait till I get stuck till I air down. Then 18-20# only in the truck, seems to work perfect and rig just pulls right out.
I've never air'd down the TH, and have gotten unstuck in some pretty deep sand in the washes at Glamis just airing down the truck.

Just don't get stuck and keep digging down.
Once you know you're not moving, and or starting to dig in bunny hop, STOP and air down. Don't do what I've seen many do, and bury your axle in the sand. Then you will have to dig it out and air down and maybe need a tow out.

HAHA never have gotten that stuck before, luckliy. I have helped many get out that were down to the frame though. The only reason I carry a tow strap in my TV is because of helping people stuck out in the dunes.
  • 20PSI is good. THere are places I go where I don't air down, but Pismo is not one of them. If you wait til you get stuck chances are your going to need to get towed out there. As soon as I hit the beach, I air down and can go about anywhere. Keep your speed up, no sharp turns, and have your line figured out before you make a run for it. I also try to stay out of the sea water. It will rust the underside of your trailer in no time.

That is the one of the downsides of Pismo, I stay as far away from the water as possible but still set surface rust. First thing I doe after a trip is wash both the TV and TH.
  • Yeah you can't really avoid it. Even if you stay out of the water there is salt in the sand and also gets carried in the fog. Best to rinse everything as soon as you get home.
  • We rarely ever air down when going to the dunes, especially at Gordons. Just make sure to keep your momentum and no sharp turns like everyone is saying. Pismo is a different animal all together. We air down to 20 PSI on truck and trailer right when we hit the beach; that has proven to be the best. The salt sucks for us because we come from AZ and have to wait to wash off all that salt when we get home. :(
  • Pismo:
Air truck to 18, trailer to 25, and pin it to win it.
    Momentum is your friend.
