OP back, I went with the Beech Lane Levellers. They appear to be much stronger than the Anderson levellers, at least according to the reviews. Looking at the reviews for the Anderson's many people have snapped them!
But it still looks like I'll still need one 2x8 for spots with soft ground or soggy grass. This will keep the plastic levellers from sinking in the soft surface. If I made these I would make them much wider then the 6" inch width that seems standard for all the levellers.
