I did not read all reply's yet, but I kept water in my toilet, and left lid closed, came to find when I opened it there was mold and mildew on lid, toilet seat and bowl, and the underneath of the lid was soaked with moisture, just like a pot lid when it has been steaming, so now I leave lid up and that way moisture gets out and hopefully does not cause problems.
