Tow question

With a dry hitch weight of 2800# you're terribly overloaded. Don't want to sound negative but... I think you're payload is about 2K if I'm not mistaken. That is a great fiver, but needs a 3500 dually IMHO.

I think you trailer..(beautiful one at that) comes in at about 16,000 lbs GVWR.

My bet is that it is way too heavy for the available payload that your current 2500 truck has.
Hopefully others will give you a more positive opinion.

Weekend trips in the flatlands, ok. No hills or mountain. That tranny aint gonna make it. Sorry.

Figured that would be the answer...Picked it up in Cincinnati yesterday morning and brought it to West TN. No problems. 250K miles on the old girl and she did great. As far as my tranny, I've pulled everything from backhoes to the big fivers and she's still going strong. I'd be more concerned about that GM if I were you....course it looks like you trade regular....

Well if you still kept with the 265/75-16E tires of the Camper Package, you have a rear axle/tire capacity of 6,830#. I carry a 12,360 # GVWR 5er at 11,000# and have just about 500# to 600# on the VIN plate axle rating of 6,084#, loaded you will be pushing the tire capacity! I with the 11,000# 5er connected have just at or slightly over 10,000# on the TV, or 1,200# over the stated GVWR, you will be close to 2,000# over!


The 5.9 for that year at 235 HP, will need some help to get the load moving.

I'd be more concerned with the rear tires. Get it weighted and read the sidewall weight limits for your tires.

Just wondering, did you stop anywhere at a scale and get weights?? I would be interested in knowing.

If he stuck with the Camper Package optional tires of 265/75-16E, they have a weight capacity of 3,415# ea. so total of 6,830# and a rear axle weight in the neighborhood of 3,000# with normal load and hitch, that would give him about 3,800 of pin capacity.
