Tow service and DRV Inspection recommendations please!

Well, I just might have found a used Dream Suite RV I would like to get inspected before I lay my money down on it. Also since my "girly man" 99 Dodge 2500 diesel will not tow it safely (the DRV has a dry weight of approximately 11,550 lbs), I need to have it towed from Redding, California to Salem, Oregon.

If this RV is truly in good shape, I have to be prepared to fork out the money to have it inspected and towed.

Any recommendations, please?

PS: Yes, later on I will be looking to buy a new/newer 3500 one ton.

  • Should be able to find a mobile RV Tech near the area where you want to buy the unit and he should be able to inspect it for you , it will cost some money but should be reasonable..as well.

As far as moving it from where it is to where you need to go I would call up some of the RV delivery companies in Elkhart --Shipshewana --Middlebury area .

Starfleet, Hoousier transport,..TeamRV. ,just a couple I can think of off hand.

there's lots of RV transport companies ---what you could do is they(you through them).. could contract you with a driver who's taking their rig to California And since the drivers only get paid one way I'm certain they wouldn't mind doing another trip to take it back to where you're going (and get paid for that)..

Mobile Suites Are very heavy, however --Wednesday I did a factory tour ,and stop over the service center( just across the street from factory). and there is an owner pulling his with a 2500 truck ----I wouldn't do it but there was someone doing it.
so there be a qualified driver already out there in California and could get to Oregon for you.

Chuck don't let that number fool you! VERY unlikely that MS weighs less than 12K. If it does then your 2500 will tow it home just fine.

I also feel chuck can tow it back to Oregon but would like a bigger truck for future towing. I towed for a test before we bought our 2001 35 ft alpenlite at the dealer in Chehalis wa with our 98 dodge 2500. A level tow and not much of a test and of course the salesman told me how great it would be but I am not fooled very easy when I want some thing better for safety.

  • There a few good rv dealers in Redding that have been in business for a long time....contact them and see what they can do.
  • I wrote to the NRVIA certified inspector web site and they do not have an inspector within 250 miles of were the RV is. Said that, I feel the NRVIA certified inspector would be a great service to any one.
  • Do an Internet search for an NRVIA certified inspector. It's money well spent when buying a used unit if you're unable or don't feel qualified to inspect the unit yourself.

  • I,d find a mobile tech in the area ,to inspect the rv, they might know a tow service. or a company that moves mobil homes.
  • You may want to check out an RV dealer to have it inspected or a mobile repair shop. As for transporting they may also have an idea on how to get it to your destination. Good Luck and Happy Camping !!
