I'm a bit in the same quandary...looking to go to a fifth wheel. We had looked at larger TT a few months back and ran up against the hitch limitations. I think the TT receiver hitch has a max limitation of 1130 with WD. So, many of the trailer we liked such as the Outback all were too close to max tongue weight. On a Toy Hauler, not sure what happens to the tongue when you load it up, seems it would get lighter hence heavier initial dry weights.
Truck in sig has a listed payload of 2090 and even then we've had a hard time finding the right set-up in a TT or 5th wheel. We have not but will this week head to a CAT scale to get an accurate reading on where we stand. I'm sure these trucks can handle overweight situations fine, I just want to try and stay at or under. I'm beginning to wish dealers had scales on lot, but that's never going to happen!
