I guess for me it's always on my mind as to how much we have in the camper and in the truck. The max weight limit is totally loaded and I can guarantee I'll never be fully loaded. Never haul full tanks or even half full tanks for that matter. We have empty cupboards all over the place. Eat off of paper plates instead of glass. In fact I don't think we have any glass kitchen ware in the camper. Don't over pack groceries either. I like to support the local community wherever we are going rather than pack for three meals a day for however long were gone.
Just the two of us and our dogs. Sure we can haul a toy now and it's either a kayak or a ranger which rings in at around 1250 if that.
Just cause there's space to store stuff doesn't mean we have to carry it along and then not use it!

Ditto ditto ditto. With my first rig it was not fun pulling, especially in the wind. Now hardly know it's back there, can set the cruise and just steer, no stress at all now.

Having gone from an over loaded GM 3/4-ton, to an under loaded GM dually, to an under loaded F350SRW, which eventually turned into an over loaded F350SRW, then to an over loaded F350 dually, and now to a very under loaded International, I certainly agree, it is far better to have too much truck, than not enough!

There is something to be said for driving with the tow limits of your vehicle from a comfort standpoint. I drove thousands and thousands of miles well over the then current trucks rating and I was always flat worn out when we stopped.

That's a bit refreshing.

My first toy hauler was similar experience. They would not let me pull it off the lot with my 1500 but delivered it to my house instead. End of the day THEY were right, I HAMMERED that truck pulling my first trailer. Learned a valuable/expensive lesson.
