@bens140, I suggested 4 down because it is a 4x4. I know that Jeep has put at least two transmission/transfer cases in vehicles of that approximate year because I have one of them. I know nothing at all about the one I DON'T have, but I do know that the one I have is eminently towable 4 down even though it has an automatic transmission too, because the transfer case has a neutral on it. According to the owner's manual, towing 4 down calls for transfer case in neutral and tranny in park.
I don't know if yours is the same as mine or not. You may be correct that you can't tow THAT one 4 down. But you might want to double check that. I also know that some iterations that ARE towable have a neutral position marked on the transfer lever, and some do not, but there is still a neutral there that will fill the bill.
