Trailair pin box accessory

I've just placed an order for a new fifth wheel taking the option for a Trailair pin box. However, it does not come as a Tri-Glide from the company. Has anyone purchased the "chucking" plate, from Ultra Fab/ Trailair, to convert the standard air bag pin box to the new style Tri-Glide. If so, can you give the part number I would need to order one.

Thanks,

Not sure what all the confusion is all about. You CAN order a TrailAir air bag pin box with the TriGlide. If someone is telling you no, they are full of Barbra Streisand!

  • You can add the plate but it is almost as much as the complete hitch with already on. You would have almost twice the price in your hitch. I would see if you can change your order. You have to call for the part number unless the site has it now.
  • Let's clear this up.

Did you order the TrailAir air bag pin box or the regular TrailAir pin box?

If you ordered the regular then change the order to TrailAir air ride pin box with TriGlide.

The TriGlide is a option for the air ride box only.
  • I do want to thank the people who have responded, but please lets get back to the question I asked.

I have ordered the Trailair pin box as a factory installed option on my new trailer. What the pin box does not have is the rubberized pin plate to reduce the horizontal movement of starting and stopping, or the rhythmic banging on concrete roads. I want to know if it is possible to add this plate and if anyone has done so, what is the part #!

    Thanks,

I just had a Trail Air installed last week . I had thought about on line purchase and save a little $$$$$. I thought I would go to my local RV shop and I was able to see what was involved to install one. Thank God I was able to see what it took to install one ,and the equipment and heavy duty tools it took to do the job. Two men a hydraulic hoist to lift the 200lb unit and hold it in place while the bolt holes were lined up. Then they also needed to locate the electrical box and the break away. I gladly paid the installation fee at the shop. My total bill was $ 1,385 well spent $$$.
You wouldn't believe how easy it was to install mine. I did it by myself. Unhitch the trailer and pull the truck ahead slightly. Unbolt the old pinbox and set it on the tailgate on some wood blocks. Use the front jacks on the trailer to set the right height. Set the new hitch on the tailgate on top of the wood blocks. Raise or lower the trailer to line up the bolts. Align the bolt holes with a drift pin or two or maybe a couple screwdrivers. Replace the bolts. Raise the trailer up and you're done. Some people make some of these jobs too complicated. I can get this done in about 45 minutes. Might need some help to set the new hitch on the truck..that's what wives are for..BIG wives..

  • I have a TrailAir with no triglide. Think they want almost as much for the triglide addition as the whole hitch. Have always had regular pin boxes with the B&W with very minimum chucking. Am not happy with the TrailAir at all. Ride is rougher than all the others. Darned if I can figure out why, tried all kinds of combinations on Ranch shocks and air bags. Would love to trade it for a Demco Glide pin box.
  • I've got the standard trail air and am quite happy with. Not sure how much the tri-glide would add to it. B&W Companion probably helps the equation too.
  • You have a couple of options. Buy the trailer without the Trail-Aire pinbox and purchase one with the Tri-Glide jaw from the aftermarket and install it. Probably much cheaper if you buy it online than from a dealer. Or try it without the Tri-Glide jaw first and see how it pulls. You can always add that later. I have a Trail-Aire with a Tri-Glide. I purchased it at a rally for about 1/3 of the normal retail price. I'm not that sold on the Tri-Glide feature and doubt if I would get it again. Just my opinion.
