TrailAir vs. Trailaire

A while back there was a good thread on chucking and pin boxes. Our rig does do some chucking but it has never really bothered us too much. However, the thread got me thinking about what the chucking might be doing to our vintage 5'er.

When I began looking into it I discovered there are two "trailair"s.
One is made by Lippert and the other is not. Can anyone educate me on which one I ought to get or other alternatives I might look at. We are very happy with how our slider works and would rather change the pinbox.

  • I think all of Trailair is now Lippert (LCI). Good or bad.

There is a trailair Rotoflex that pivots a little in the front inside rubber bushings, a Trailair air ride with an airbag and shock, and a Trailair Tri-glide with the airbag, shock, and floating plate that works a little like the Demco gliding hitch.

We have the Tri-glide and you can really see it work. On a rough road you begin to feel as if the trailer isn't really connected.

ON EDIT: Looks like B.O. and I were saying the same thing at the same time, sorry for the redundancy
  • There is a Trail-Aire air ride pinbox and a Trail-Aire air ride pinbox with a Tri-Glide jaw. Both are the same except the Tri-Glide is an addition that can be added to help eliminate chucking. The company that makes them is wholly owned by Lippert. The Tri-Glide jaw uses a mechanical linkage to dampen the chucking. A Mor-Ryde pinbox is totally different and use rubber for dampening. Mor-Ryde is not affiliated with Trail-Aire in any way.

    B.O.
  • Just did a google search and only one company comes up. The original Trailair was bought out by Lippert Components a few years ago. The original owner as I understand has a small shop still in the area and is in no way associated with the original company any longer.
  • I asked for trail-air box on my new trailer not knowing there really was 2 named vary similar. I got the wrong one. The one I was after was a morRyde Trail-air like the one I had on the trailer I traded in. Vary nice ride. The one I did get does a good job of controlling the chucking, but I was happier with the other model.
    Live and learn.
