Trailer Tires in the NW Oregon area

There aren't a whole lot of options for tire stores in my neck of the woods.

After getting to know my "new to me" 5'ver some more, I've come to find out that the very good looking (made in USA even) GY Marathons are just short of 10 years old. That is most certainly outside of replacement time. So looking around for replacements.

Everyone seems to carry Towmax, and Carlisle brands.

Sized at 235/80/16 looking for a LRE trailer or LT tire. Recommendations? Hoping not to have to ship, but will order online if it comes to it. Like to avoid Chinese tires, I don't trust them on any vehicle I have let alone a heavy trailer.

  • I'll do some measuring and see if they'll run. I'm not sure how much clearance I have. I think the axle to axle distance is closer than the tire to "fender".
  • Well you can jump up to a 235/85/16 and get Michelin XPS ribs at Discount. $283.00 each. Looks like you need to go to the 85 series to get away from Marathon/Carlile and Blowmax.
  • Schwabs used to be great for service, as that was what the sold. After Les passed some years ago, the service has gone downhill. The local Schwabs here is mostly a ghost town compared to the other local shops in town. Edit : I'll add the "other" local shops are independently owned tire stores, which aren't able to help or carry a warranty on a tire outside of town, let alone out of state.

They carry the made in China Towmax. I've read enough about them to not trust them. They are willing to order others, but they 're marked up so damn high, nearly $80 more a tire (not to mention they're not keen on the warranty with it).

I haven't called Americas/Discount tire yet, but online, they list only a Carlisle which I know nothing about.
  • X3 on Les Schwab. You can't beat their service and backing up of their product they provide. I just wish they had stores in Ariz.
  • X2 Americas Tire. They will treat you right. They will also price match anyone elses tires.
  • Discount Tires springs to mind, they have locations around the region and usually beat Schwab for prices. In fact the tire-guy at the local CostCo sends people to Discount for the sizes, etc the CostCo can't get.
  • Americas tire will treat you right with a wide choice if LT tires to fit your budget

    X2

At this point, you could do a lot worse than Les Schwab. If price is your major concern, then check some tire dealers on line. Sometimes the delivered price, mounted and balanced on new wheels, is less than what any retailer would charge. However, Les Schwab stands behind their tires and the additional cost could well be worth it.

  • Check out Bridgestone Duravis LT 235/85 R16 or Michelin Ribs in the same LT size. Check ckearance as tires are slightly larger.
