Well very frustrated. So I will vent a bit. We had a travel trailer with 30 amp 120 service, had and still have my Honda EU 3000 IS and it did a great job handling the travel trailer with the transfer switch. wired in and all was great. Now, fifth wheel with 220 and 30 amp generator. So here goes. You can use the factory supplied plug/cord - 220 50 amp 4 wire and run everything in the coach. oh we only have one a/c so not a problem. have a 220 50 amp service at the house for shore power and still have my 3000 Honda generator. So transfer switch i had according to electrician will not work because of 220 shore power, 110 generator power and depending on what is being used in the coach could be over the amount for 110 and just right for 220. if you only use everything without the second a/c, then 30 amp service works great. BUT, i bought a 50 amp transfer switch from camping world, the guy drew a diagram on how to wire it so it will accept 50 amp shore power and 30 amp geny power. electrician says it won't work as if you hook up the terminals the way camping world says, jumper between L1 and L2 you will be connecting a neutral with a hot leg as the switch is already wired from the factory. So my delema. i want to have my cake and eat it too. hook up to 220 50 amps when i want, hook up to 30 amps as needed do to available power or use 30 amp 110 generator with a transfer switch. so not that everyone is confused, please give me your take on the situation if yo could. Sounds like your "electrician" is a wire puller & not an "electrician".He is thinking your rv uses 230volts & doesn't understand thr rv uses (2) 110 circuits.My ELECTRICIAN buddy just rewired a 30a rv plug that a so called electrician wired up and when the owner plugged up his brand new motor home ,fried all the appliances.set it up like a range plug.

thanks,I believe the case of him dealing with it as a 220 volt circuit is probably the case. He is a good electrician but doesn't understand the RV situation. I will maybe bite the bullet and have it done at an RV shop so if something goes wrong, they can fix all the components that get burned up!!!!! Well update to all and to a thanks for the info.
Camping world is correct but also may have confused things.
L1 and L2 needs a jumper if using 30 amp generator. They most like meant Leg one and Leg two. Anyhow so be it. I hooked up all on the bench at home and did a test with two separate receptacles to simulate two 110 vols circuits. All works fine. So as not to worry myself to death over burning something up, I paid an hour labor to have the unit connected into the coach. i did all the preliminary and finish work. Works great! just due to the larger a/c, i need to turn on the fan first, then kick on the compressor. So having said all that I am up and running and have my cake and able to eat it too! The factory rep walked me through the workings of the switch in which taught me a lot. Well end of story, hooked up and I guess energized!!! Good Luck & Be Safe ! ! !

smkettner Is correct on the wiring for the ATS. I just setup solar panels and inverter in my 5th wheel. As your generator my inverter only has one leg of 120 volts. 50 amp service uses 2 legs of 120 volt. If you don't put the jumper in from L1 to L2 you will not supply 120 volts to your entire unit. The neutral and ground pass thru the ATS with no jumpers. This setup is the same wiring as in the 30-50 amp dog bone adapter. It does expose your neutral to a potential higher amp load but...we all use the dog bone adapter with no adverse effects as long as we not try to run two AC's at the same time when on the dog bone adapter.

50 AMP RV is 220 V 50 amp.

Its just that nothing in the RV uses 220V power. L1 to N or L2 to N is 110V.

Not totally sure how RV manufactures hook up 50 amp RV, but I assume most everything is on one leg with the 2nd AC, and Washer dryer on the 2nd leg.

Need to see how my 50 amp adapter is wired up....

Your electrician is wrong. Camping World is correct.

NC (normally closed) input goes to your cord for straight through 50a 240v power.

NO (normally open) input will have L1 & L2 bonded to the generator L1 (hot) and of course N-N and G-G. Or just use a commonly available 30-50 adapter on the main cord.

Well, this may be slightly off topic, but my rig has one A/C and a 50 amp service. I ditched my 50 amp cord and purchased a 30 amp adapter. Now I just use the much thinner and easier to maneuver 30 amp cord. I believe that the 50 amp is only necessary if you use the washer/dryer that we did not purchase. Those breakers in the rig are turned off.

I disagree with this statement. The NEMA TT30R receptacle has a "U" shaped ground hole and the NEMA 10-30R receptacle has an "L" shaped ground hole. Neither are interchangeable with each other. As I and others have posted in the past whenever there has been work done such as an update on a power supply you should check out the work with a meter and check for proper voltage and wiring. JMO
