I leave mine on as well. Is it legal on a 102 (aka 8.5ft wide trailer)- I don't know. Really for the most part the Law doesn't mess with the typical RV'r. You may hear a story from a friend who has a friend or talked to somebody that got a ticket for traveling with a ladder attached or propane tanks open(exception being prohibited tunnels & bridges yeah I get that) yada yada yada. But I can tell you from first hand experience that RV's are typically not on a cop's radar(literally or figuratively). I could get long winded here and debate the letter of the law- for instance in PA it is a violation to mount a GPS to the front windshield or hang fuzzy dice from your mirror anything obstructing the view, tint your windows, etc. but I think that would go beyond the scope of what you were asking. My point here is trying to demonstrate the difference of a RV trailer traveling with a ladder on the side as manufactured or the guy driving down the freeway in a sedan with a queen/king size mattress roped to his roof. I know we've all seen this or something similar, but have you ever seen that guy get pulled over?
