Trip Report - El Pasos out of Ridgecrest
We had a great time last weekend riding through the El Pasos. There are so many trails and canyons tucked away in those hills that you can just wander around and never hit the same place twice.
There's a cabin up on a peak overlooking Garlock that we rode to years ago and I haven't been able to find it since. We finally made it back there. It's insanely windy up there, so the cabin is held down by cables anchored into the ground. When you zoom into the satellite photos of the place, you can actually see the shadows of the cables on the ground.
Friday night was stormy and rainy. We've been snowed on out there before, but I can't remember having it rain all night before. Saturday was perfect with all the dust held down from the rain.
Saturday night we rode into town in Randsburg to catch the live band at The Joint. That place used to be pretty dank and scary, but it's a fun destination now.
Sunday morning we were cruising around and I found a canyon without any four-wheel tire tracks leading into it, which always makes me cautious. My wife got out and hiked down to scout it out and told me to just do it. It was a fun descent, but I think she only told me to go on because she didn't want to hike back up. It took a while to get our buddies to come down. Karma caught up to them though and gave them a flat.
There are lots of open mines out there still. Luckily most of them are pretty well marked or covered up.
There's an old sandblasted Gideons' Bible crusted open to the Psalms in the living room near the stove. Seems like a pretty peaceful place to read the word.
I'm glad my friends finally made it down, because I didn't want to have to climb back up.
Two plugs and he was back on the trail again.
