So what you are say is that it don't matter if the OP buys a 2005 DRW or a 2014 DRW it will be better than a 2014 SRW?

I guess Ram is putting bandaids under their trucks now by putting air bags on them.

How many people driving a dually realize that they were NOT developed to improve stability? The original purpose was to reduce ground pressure.

Oil field workers in West Texas and New Mexico found that the rear wheels of their pickups, when loaded with welding machines and other equipment, would break through the crust on the desert sand and bog down. Before cell phones and/or affordable two-way radio this sometimes brought about a long walk to get somebody to come pull them out.

Duals cut the rear ground pressure in half and reduced the break-through.

If you draw an overturning force triangle with the load apex at the trailer pin; the base right angle at the ground under the center of the rear axle; and the support apex at the center of the rear wheel(s) the difference in moment resistance between single and dual is almost negligible. If you look into the mind of the guy with the dually, the difference is enormous!

Half again as much rubber on the ground for braking is a different matter.

(Yes, I have used both to pull the same trailer and have gone back to SRW, but with a long bed. JMHO)

Just mt 2 cents I have owned over the years 7 half tons, two 3/4 tons and now a duelly........... and no I would not go back towing what I do .......even though it does look strange when I tow the 9 foot trailer but the two 36 ft fivers do tow better with the duelly. Much more stable & less wind issues.......:)

HAHAHA!! This is the norm. People go from a 10 year old SRW truck to a new DRW truck and claim that the duel tires are the only way to go.

It takes a while for some people to figure out that life is better with the right tool for the job.

That's right, some people need to realize that some people don't like to use a 8 lb sledge hammer to drive nails.

I have and drive SRW and DRW trucks. I know what I know. The biggest problem is that people want the truck to drive and feel the same loaded as it does unloaded instead of driving according to the load they have.

It kills me all the people that say , "I had a 1999 SRW and went to a 2010 DRW and WOW what a difference! I will never go back."

Or "Went from srw to drw and the wind never bothers me anymore". That's BS! The wind must be different around here. It blows my fully loaded DRW F350 around just as much as my SRW 3500.

Rv's aren't getting any smaller, maybe that's why there are so many trucks with dual tires towing.
I know my current vs last rv is 7000 heavier.

I've been a member here for quite a while and it love to read these type of threads. I always imagine one mechanic trying to convince another mechanic that a socket set is more efficient than a pair of channel locks

There is a reason they make a dual wheel truck and a single wheel truck and it's up to the individual to decide which tool is right for them

I think he's trying to say that a 13 yr old SRW is not comparable to a new SRW. World of difference. Probably about the same as from new SRW to Dually.
